ABLUTIONS OF A NEFARIOUS NATURE
a retrospective exhibition of costumes, photos and video, including three evenings of performance written and directed by Went.
The exhibition runs from April 21, through May 19, 2007
Performances are on Saturdays, May 5, 12, and 19 at 8 PM.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 6 to 9 PM.
For the first time on DVD, this disc features performance artist Johanna Went in her legendary club shows (1977-1987).
Seminal, wild and raw, these performances were accompanied by live improvised music from some of LA's most adventurous players including z'ev, Mark & Brock Wheaton, Greg Burk, Kerry McBride and many others.
The DVD includes two videos of Johanna Went by Academy Award Winning director Shirley Clarke (“The Box” and “Live at UCLA Studio One”)
Also included is a bonus audio CD of studio recordings including the entire Poshboy Records 1982 LP “Hyena” (Remixed and Re-mastered)
and the songs from the first 1981 45 rpm single “Slave Beyond the Grave” originally released on Boyd Rice's Graybeat label.
